  75.       You may register for any of the VENDINFO tools or services by com-
  76.       pleting the form found later in this document, and sending it to us
  77.       in either hardcopy or electronic form.

  79.       When you register VendEdit or VendPrcs, you acquire a license to use
  80.       the current version indefinitely, as well as any minor maintenance
  81.       upgrades to that version. You will receive the current version by
  82.       mail, but will not automatically receive updates (see "Auto-Upgrade
  83.       Plan", below). Major upgrades (new features) will require payment of
  84.       an additional fee, or participation in the Auto-Upgrade Plan. This
  85.       "unbundling" has been done to minimize the cost of the basic toolset
  86.       while still covering the ongoing costs of the VENDINFO system (such
  87.       as handling of Product Registry materials).

  93.       There are a number of additional VENDINFO products and services
  94.       available. You can obtain them at a reduced rate if you sign up for
  95.       them at the same time as your initial registration, since this
  96.       reduces our processing costs.

  99.    AUTO-UPGRADE PLAN
  100.    -----------------

  102.       Participation in the Auto-Upgrade Plan will allow you to receive all
  103.       new releases of your registered tools by mail for one year (or four
  104.       mailings, whichever comes first). This includes both minor main-
  105.       tenance upgrades and major upgrades (with any necessary new keys to
  106.       allow you to use them).
  107.  
  108.       Authors will want to subscribe to this service, because lots of new
  109.       features are planned for VendEdit. The new features planned for
  110.       VendPrcs are less extensive, but distributors will want to be sure
  111.       they have them early, so they can handle any new versions of the
  112.       VENDINFO records as soon as they appear. Even single-line, noncommer-
  113.       cial BBSes (which pay no fee to use VendPrcs) may want to subscribe

  124.       to this service to insure that they always have the current tools.

  127.    PRODUCT REGISTRY SUBSCRIPTIONS

  130.       Authors are encouraged to send their VENDINFO records to our central
  131.       Product Registry (and are given significant incentives to do so --
  132.       see VendEdit documentation for details). These will be made available
  133.       to subscribing distributors immediately, and will also eventuall be
  134.       available for custom queries by distributors and users (details for
  135.       custom queries are still being worked out).

  137.       Serious distributors will be interested in full-service subscriptions
  138.       to the Product Registry data, by mail, on-line access, or both. This
  139.       is a great way of discovering new products and authors, maintaining
  140.       current contact information on known authors, and noticing new ver-
  141.       sions of your existing products.

  143.       The mail subscription entitles you to monthly packages containing all
  144.       received VENDINFO records (the first package will contain the com-
  145.       plete set to-date). Due to media costs, these packages will not
  146.       include screen shots (contact us if you want to work out a subscrip-
  147.       tion arrangement that includes them).
  148.  
  149.       BBS subscriptions provide on-line access to all records, including
  150.       screen shots. When our VendPrcs Plus program is ready, it will allow
  151.       off-line query preparation and very efficient on-line sessions (as
  152.       well as many other useful features).

  155.    VendLib SOFTWARE DEVELOPER'S LIBRARY
  156.    ------------------------------------

  158.       The VendLib Library allows software developers to build VENDINFO.DIZ
  159.       access directly into such products as BBS programs and upload proces-
  160.       sors. It will also be very useful to distributors who write their own
  161.       customized database software, as it will allow them to directly
  162.       access all fields in each VENDINFO.DIZ file from within their own
  163.       software.

  165.       VendLib includes C source, and currently supports C/C++ applications,
  166.       as well as Windows applications via a DLL. Plans are underway to
  167.       extend support to other languages in the near future, but the source
  168.       provides a good guide for writing your own access functions, if you
  169.       prefer. Purchase of this package includes one year of support.
  170.  
  171.       By special arrangement with TurboPower Software, we also offer a
  172.       license for the use of their PKZIP-v1.10-compatible UNZIP functions.

  183.       Since the compression currently used in VENDINFO records is PKZIP
  184.       v1.10, this will allow extraction of VENDINFO data using an internal
  185.       decompression function, if you don't have access to this
  186.       functionality elsewhere. These functions are not PKZIP-v2.04g-
  187.       compatible, however, and are not intended for general use. Contact us
  188.       for details if you need this capability.

  198.    REGISTRATION BY E-MAIL

  201.       If we receive your registration form by some form of secure e-mail
  202.       (e.g., CompuServe e-mail, FidoNet crash mail) and you ask us to do
  203.       so, we will send your registration keys by the same mechanism, for
  204.       fast registration. We reserve the right to add a small fee for this
  205.       (not more than $4.00), but our current policy is to charge no fee
  206.       except for international FidoNet crash mail.

  212.       All orders must be prepaid, by Visa, MasterCard, checks payable in
  213.       U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank, certified bank drafts drawn in
